The Fifteen Minute City

The fifteen minute city is less a boundary than a way of asking what belongs nearby.

The fifteen minute city is a useful thought experiment: can most daily needs be met within a short walk or bike ride? The answer will differ from neighborhood to neighborhood, but the question exposes gaps that a regional map hides. A clinic may exist, but is it reachable without a car? A school may be close, but is the route safe for a child?

The concept is not about forcing every neighborhood to be self-sufficient. It is about noticing which trips are unnecessarily long and which services are clustered in ways that exclude people without vehicles. The goal is a finer grain of access, not isolation.
